Vitamin B3 (niacin) became somewhat famous when it was found to be suitable for the prevention and treatment of the skin disease pellagra (rough, extremely light-sensitive skin). The vitamin also regulates blood sugar levels, energy production and is involved in many metabolic processes. With an unbalanced diet, e.g. with a mainly plant-based diet, it can quickly happen that the level of vitamin B3 in the blood falls below the target value. Because so many people - such as vegetarians, vegans or nut allergy sufferers - do not eat or tolerate one or other source of niacin, it is contained in numerous NOBUSAN preparations.

Vitamin B3 is found in meat, fish, wholemeal products, yeast and nuts. The body can also produce the vitamin itself from the amino acid tryptophan contained in milk and eggs.  

Symptoms of a vitamin B3 deficiency are the typical "3D": dermatitis (skin disease), diarrhoea and dementia (disorders of the nervous system).
