Active and Vital Ingredients
Yam

Yam

The tropical yam (Dioscorea) is an important source of food and a valuable medicinal plant for women. The climbing plant owes its botanical name to the Greek physician Pedanios Dioscurides, who lived in the 1st century. There are over 200 varieties of yam. The tubers, which grow underground, can grow up to 2 meters long. The color of the flesh ranges from white to yellow and pink to reddish-purple. When cooked, yams taste sweet and are floury – like a mixture of potatoes and chestnuts. They are similar to sweet potatoes, but are not related to them. In naturopathy, yams are valued primarily for their positive effect on PMS (premenstrual syndrome) and menopausal symptoms. The sweet tuber is also traditionally used to treat infertility. NOBUSAN has harnessed the hormone-like effect of yams in its ANIMYL supplement for women.

Red Clover

Red Clover

Red clover (Trifolium pratense) or meadow clover belongs to the legume family. The botanical name “Trifolium” means three-leaved and indicates that clover normally has three-part leaves, unless you are lucky enough to find a four-leafed one. Incidentally, finding a two-leaf clover is said to indicate a new lover. A white “arrow” can usually be seen on the surface of the leaf. The red color of the flowers is also typical, with white or yellowish flowers being less common. Everyone knows red clover as a weed and fodder plant, but what is less well known is that it is also an ancient medicinal plant! In folk medicine, for example, it is used to treat coughs, stomach inflammation, fungal infections, depression, and chronic skin diseases. Hildegard von Bingen (1098–1179) also valued it for treating “darkening of the eyes.” The isoflavonoids it contains have an antioxidant effect and a positive effect on the liver, blood, and blood vessels. As so-called phytoestrogens, they can also help with mild menopausal symptoms, for example in the women's special preparation ANIMYL from NOBUSAN. CAUTION: Due to its estrogen-like effect, red clover extracts should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding or in cases of estrogen-dependent cancer. During menopause, red clover extract can prevent or delay the need to take hormones; however, please consult your gynecologist about this.

Dong Quai

Dong Quai

Dong Quai, Chinese angelica, is one of the most important plants in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). TCM considers the sweet yet pungent root to be a yin tonic for the blood and uses it to treat anemia—probably because of its relatively high vitamin B12 content, which is said to have blood-forming properties. But the root of Chinese angelica is also said to help with rheumatic complaints, pain in general, and liver problems. It is said to strengthen the heart, lower blood pressure, stimulate appetite and circulation, and strengthen the coronary arteries. What is certain is that Dong Quai contains plant estrogens, which is why it is also used to regulate female hormone balance, for cramp-like menstrual problems, hot flashes, mood swings (PMS!), and infertility. ANIMYL for women from NOBUSAN contains an extract of Dong Quai because of the above-mentioned effects.

CAUTION: Although Dong Quai contains valuable folic acid, it is said that pregnant women and those suffering from diarrhea should avoid it because of its laxative effect.

Schisandra

Schisandra

The schisandra berry, or berry cluster from the star anise family, is a medicinal plant known as Chinese schisandra (Schisandra chinesis); its Chinese name is Wu Wei Zi. There are 19 to 20 species of this plant genus in China. In China, the berries are chewed directly, drunk as tea, or processed into jams, syrups, and liqueurs. Chinese magnolia vine has long been valued in TCM for its many uses. It is primarily considered to be regenerative and performance-enhancing, but it is also used to treat colds, urinary tract infections, diabetes, asthma, and depression. It also strengthens vision and hearing as well as the sexual energy of both sexes, which is why NOBUSAN uses it in its ANIMYL supplement for women. Schisandra owes its liver-protecting properties to the lignans it contains. For the Chinese, what makes schisandra special is that the fruit represents the flavors of all five elements: it is sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and spicy at the same time.

Resveratrol

Resveratrol

Resveratrol belongs to the group of polyphenols—secondary plant compounds that have proven to be nature's true fountain of youth. This substance, which NOBUSAN also uses in its anti-aging products, has been known since the 1960s. Resveratrol was first isolated from Japanese knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum), but it is also found in mulberries, raspberries, grapes, and pomegranates. According to research, resveratrol has a positive effect on heart function, which is another factor that counteracts the unpleasant side effects of aging. This is why people in southern countries value a glass of wine as a guarantee of a long life. However, to obtain the required amount of resveratrol, you would have to drink a whole bottle every day. As this would undoubtedly be less beneficial to your health, taking it in capsule form is the ideal supplement to a balanced diet. In vitro studies have also found that the substance has a positive effect on arteriosclerosis and arthritis, and its beneficial influence on Alzheimer's disease is also being investigated.

Coenzym Q10

Coenzym Q10

Folic acid (vitamin B9)

Folic acid (vitamin B9)

Most people know folic acid or vitamin B9 as the typical “fertility and pregnancy vitamin” – but it is important for much more than just cell division processes. To be precise, it is not even a vitamin, but a coenzyme and, as such, is involved in a variety of biochemical reactions such as blood formation; It also protects against arteriosclerosis. Folic acid deficiency is one of the most widespread deficiency symptoms, which is probably due, among other things, to the fact that it loses much of its effectiveness through exposure to light, heat, and long storage of our food. Supplementation with vital substance preparations such as those from NOBUSAN is therefore advisable for almost everyone, but especially during pregnancy and breastfeeding, when taking certain medications (laxatives, antiepileptics, cytostatics, antimalarials), with high alcohol consumption, and gastrointestinal diseases.

Folic acid is found in whole grain products, egg yolks, vegetables (cabbage, spinach, fennel, pumpkin, mushrooms, avocado), legumes, wheat germ, yeast (flakes), and nuts.

Symptoms of folic acid deficiency include changes in the mucous membranes in the mouth (e.g., burning sensation on the tongue), diarrhea, seemingly unexplained loss of appetite, and nausea, and can even lead to pathological changes in the blood count. If a woman does not consume enough folic acid during pregnancy, this can lead to malformations in the unborn child (neural tube defect).

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is probably the most underrated vitamin of our time. It has a major impact on our nervous system, metabolism, detoxification, and blood formation. In addition to vegetarians and vegans, diabetics, pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women taking birth control pills, and chemotherapy patients also have a significantly increased need for vitamin B12. To ensure that our customers receive a comprehensive supply, many NOBUSAN products contain this essential vitamin in various dosages.

Vitamin B12 is found in dairy products, eggs, meat, fish, liver, and brewer's yeast.

Symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include nerve disorders such as coldness or tingling in the fingers and feet, sores on the oral mucosa, balance disorders, anemia, smell and taste disorders, concentration disorders, exhaustion, and low mental resilience.

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxin)

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxin)

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is extremely important for blood formation, the nervous system, immune defense, and the utilization of amino acids. It also provides valuable assistance in the prevention of arteriosclerosis and nourishes the skin. In high doses, it is also used to treat carpal tunnel syndrome (numbness in the fingers and toes) and premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in women. The need for vitamin B6 increases during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in diabetics, and when taking the “pill” or medications for tuberculosis or epilepsy. People who eat an extremely protein-rich diet (e.g., competitive athletes or those on a low-carb diet) also need to be careful, as in this case the vitamin B6 intake must also be adjusted. If these “risk factors” are not present, a diet rich in vitamin B is actually sufficient to meet your needs. Because an increased intake of the vitamin is almost always beneficial and an overdose through diet or over-the-counter supplements is hardly possible, it is included in good multi-nutrient formulas such as those from NOBUSAN alongside other B vitamins.

Vitamin B6 is found in whole grains, potatoes, soy, carrots, bananas, cauliflower, wheat germ, nuts, yeast, meat, and fish.

Symptoms of vitamin B6 deficiency include skin changes around the eyes, nose, and mouth (chapped corners of the mouth!), certain forms of anemia, nervous disorders, and insomnia.
